"Invisible" Russian Warriors Blast Nazis!
by
STIRRING PICTURES OF ACTION from the official Russian photograph agency, Sovfoto, show how Soviet forces on the vast front northwest of Stalingrad and all along the entire Russian western battleline daily are grinding the invading Nazis backward over territory which not so long ago was being covered by Germans in a major advance. Here Red army sappers , clothed in white to make them virtually invisible against the white of the nearly perpetual Russian snow, blow up an enemy blockhouse, which explodes in fury against the winter sky, to paint on clouds and snow a grim portrayal of the devastation and death that is war. BROUGHT TO THE FRONT by rail, these guns on a Red army armored train hurl shells at the German lines, blasting Nazi entrenchments and tearing big holes in the enemys defenses. Although the retreating Germans tore up all railroads to hinder the Soviet supply system and to prevent trains from reaching the front, Red engineers quickly replaced them. RAZED IN THE VIOLENCE of battle is the village depicted in this Soviet photograph showing Red army men in action, attacking a German machinegun nest. Note the heavy clothing worn by the soldiers to combat bitter cold of the Russian winter. Contrast this to poorly-clad Nazis. CRUNCH! CRUNCH! Across the icy, hard-packed snow of the Russian steppes go these Soviet sappers on a mission. The heavy clothing, protection from the winters blast, is white so that the soldier will be hard to distinguish against the white snow when observed from a distance. Observe the device carried by last man used to detect Nazi land mines. THIS GERMAN TANK blazes furiously after being put out of commission by these advancing Red army troops. The Soviet squad drives toward the enemy lines somewhere ahead in the woods, after successful encounter with Nazis, SOVIET AUTOMATIC RIFLEMEN advance to the outskirts of another Soviet village occupied by the Germans. These advance units, like the Russian sappers, are clothed in white uniforms as protective coloration against the white of the deep Russian snow. Note type of guns Reds are using THIS STIRRING SCENE shows a Red army unit advancing across the snow to drive a German force from a little Russian village. Note the Red soldier on the roof of the cottage at the right. Also note the primitive thatched roofs necessary to keep out the cold of the Russian winter. It was this same cold and snow that defeated Napoleon in his drive for Moscow - a thought for Hitler. FROM THE HEIGHTS overlooking the major city of Pyatigors, Savior, automatic riflemen pour a devastating fire into German forces then occupying the town. The Nazis were forced to with . draw as the result of the bitter fighting for this city, after the Red army closed in from three sides. Note the iron statue of the bird poised symbolically as if to plunge. like the Reas. forward to attack
