ICTORIAL EVIEW Russian Ingenuity

DISPLAYING DOGGED deterH mination and courage against almost unbelievable odds, troops of the Soviet Union not only are conquering the wintry blasts of the Russian waste lands but are overrunning the Nasi hordes On numerous fronts. These two Red army scouts are setting out for the enemys rear. FISH-LIKE rubber tubes and paddles aid the Russian fighter to cross a stream. Most of the bridges in Russia have been destroyed but that does not stop the Soviets from pursuing the hated Nazi columns. An an example of Russian ingenuity, engineers, working at night in freezing weather, built a bridge at Voronezh a foot under water while Nazis napped. NO BRIDGE NEEDED! Using blown-up rubber tubes shaped like a doughnut, Fighters of the Russian Army are shown crossing a river. They use paddles similar to but larger than ping-pong paddles. Freezing cold does not stop Red Army man from plunging into icy stream in their fight against Hitlers "Lost Army/ The Russian Army is now well-equipped due to the supplies sent by the United States. It its heroic battle the Red Army developed many new tricks of war to stop, kill and drive back the foe at Leningrad, Stalingrad and Moscow. Soviet resistance broke down the German offensive. SAPPERS AT WORK! Three Red Army tappers, doughnut canoes" in place, paddles and rifles ready, are shown about to wade into a river to reconnoiter the enemy on the Western Front. Notice the high, heavy fishermans boots. Sappers cut the eremys lines; blow up ammunition dumps; and blast enemy fortifications. They strike suddenly, swiftly, silently, upon the enemy. TWO TYPEWRITERS! This woman soldier-attache of the Soviet Armys headquarters on the Northern Front is shown busily taking orders from an officer. Competently and expertly as a "steno" in an American business office, she types the da/t com* mands. But beside her rests a "typewriter" of M kind far different. It, too, writes a letter-Death to Nazi Foe. WARRIORS IN FEATHERBEDS! It was the white-clad Russian fighters which brought black terror to the Nazis in Russia. Silent, swift, camouflaged into the driven snows of the steppes, they swooped against Hitlers Lost Legions, killing the invader with ruthless vengeance. Above is shown light-artillerymen bringing up their guns and ammunition along a frozen road. Sub-zero weather and snow blanketed the dreams of Herr Adolf of taking Leningrad, Stalingrad, Moscow. Russian bullets, whistling in the screaming Russian winds, swept the Nazis back toward the German border. SNOW SPEEDER Clever at adapting their motorized equipment to the snow, the Russians developed this snow-o-cycle for speed. Steel runners on the sides allow the motorcycle to zip along over drifts without bogging down. The Nazis started the lightning war-the Russians improved it to meet their needs in Winter weather. Winter was their ally. PONY PATROL! Small, tough Russian ponies, built like our Western pinfos, bear Soviet scouts out on a reconnaissance patrol on the Middle Don front. Despite all the mechanization of warfare, conditions often force an army to revert to "old-fashioned" methods. Our fighters in the Solomons and New Guinea found that the foot waft faster in the jungle than motorised carriers.
